Shakespeare Fishing Rods
Shakespeare fishing rods (a Purefishing division) have started to be produced next to the reel manufacturing process early on. Shakespeare is one of the oldest and historical tackle companies. It was founded in 1897! William Shakespeare, Jr., of Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, then 27 (1896) improved an existing reel (since the reel revolved faster than the line runoff) and patented the first level-wind reel which automatically spread the line evenly when reeling in. Later on, the production moved to all tackle business and in 1947 they put to the market the first fibreglass rod. I repeat, 1947! The Ugly Stick family and their combos are certainly entry level rods worth considering. Today, the company produces rods, reels and combos.
