Robert Bateman artist bio can be summarized as the life of a boy playing in the nature and drawing birds and animals quite early (see his drawings of birds when he was a boy on the left) who then became a geography teacher (without never abadoning painting) going through different artistic phases (including abstract art) to finally become a professional and acclaimed painter (but not always: for some critics his art is merely illustration!) . Today he lives on a Canadian island in a (I suppose) relatively comfortable situation: a rare thing for an artist today.
