Orvis Fly fishing Reels are part of the huge catalog of the Orvis mail order company, the oldest in the USA (founded in 1836 by Charles Frederick Orvis). The first Orvis reel (the CFO) was made in 1974. In 1993 Orvis bought British Fly Reel, the biggest single producer of fly reels in the world. The target was clear: to be the world number one fly reel manufacturer. Today the company is run and owned by the family Perkins and is the oldest fishing rod manufacturer in the world.
