Mitchell Fishing Reels
To own a Mitchell Fishing Reels is to own a piece of history.
Mitchell improved the spinning reel and brought it to the mass consumer
market in 1950.
The first spinning reel, instead is an American invention
which was patented on March 23, 1875 by Thomas Winans and Thomas D. Whistler,
of Baltimore, Md, USA -they got the idea from the...textile industry!
Mitchell reels are the most sold fishing reels worldwide,
although this relates to the overall sales in history and not the actual
situation of the reel business.
I wrote about their History on
my pages about old reels. Today, the company is part of the Pure Fishing "high-society" family
with companions like Abu Garcia, Pflueger, Penn and Skakespeare. Wow!

Today, they seem to perpetuate the most famous of their reel, the 300 and
concentrate on low-priced entry level spinning reels.
