Martin Fly Reels

The Martin fly reels company is the oldest active fly fishing reels manufacturer in the USA although it belongs now to W.C. Bradley Co. (...wanna see the "big picture"?)

It started in 1884, two years before the publication of Halford, F. M.'s (1886) Floating Flies and How to Dress Them which sparkled the debate between those in favour of dry flies and those in favour of the "wet", submerged flies, just to set it in the right context.

There is an automatic version of them.
Franco Vivarelli, the Italian reel maker (now deceased), played around a Martin reel in the late '70s before creating a whole new patented mechanism.

Generally speaking, these fishing reels are low-end, entry-level items and also don't get much value in the collectable world (which itself does not prevent from taking pleisure in collecting them!).

The Martin website is below.
