Bamboo fly fishing rods are a world apart , an enthralling experience, a repeating memory of the "times which were".

Each bamboo rod, is different from each other, because made entirely by hand from a natural material.

This material, bamboo, is more precisely of the species called "Arundinaria Amabilis" ( although the new, correct scientific name is "Pseudosasa Amabilis" that former name is widely used in bamboo rodmaking) and it comes from China.

Hi! My name is Alessandro Brunelli and I live in Switzerland.

One day I set myself up to build my own fishing rod ... And I did it....with the help of master rodsmiths.

There are no more secrets about making your own fishing rod. And with a little patience you can make one, too! Besides, bamboo rod making is witnessing a Renaissance and more and more enthusiasts are joining the "group" today.

Before working with bamboo I trained on a normal, modern, graphite rod building kit to get a feeling of rod making. And when I finishing my first rod - a spinning rod - I looked for a cheap fishing reel to test it by the lake my children and I are used to go fishing. So I found and bought an old fishing reel, a Pflueger 510 spinning reel which immediately gave me so many new sensations that another new world opened up in front of me: the one of old vintage fishing reels.

Bamboo fly fishing rods and reels, match together well.

But what about new fishing reels, which one is the right one, is my money worth it? Am I buying something higher or lower my needs and expectations? And what about all those acronyms, real gear ratio, ball bearings etc...? What do they mean?

I explored these topics for you and still I am at looking into this vast...yes, endless sea...

Well, to make a long story short, I started a journey which I never imagined could be so rich and long. And it's not looking to be going to finish either!

My last bamboo rodmaking gathering I attended was a special one: the First European Bamboo Rodmaking Gathering held in Sansepolcro, Tuscany (Italy), on 22-25 May 2008 and was visited by more than 100 bamboo rod makers from 11 nations.

Next to fishing rod building and bamboo rodmaking I started flytying, too. As a matter of fact, when you build your own fishing rod, no matter if in graphite (today this material is "mainstream" in the angling world) or bamboo, this craft, is really a fascinating hobby which can become a profession or a source of part-time income, too!

The feeling you have when you catch a fish with your own-made rod and lures is really unique.

If I manage to transfer this message, I have done my part.

But also if you buy a rod knowing what you are holding in your hands and what is hiding behind the price I accomplished my mission: to empower you. To help you buy the right fishing tackle and introduce you to custom rod building. This is the purpose of this website.
