You would be surprized how many people are looking for ice fishing rods. Yet, the supply does not seems to be so big.

Usually you fish Panfish and Walleye mostly but trophy rainbow trouts can be a target, as well!

Rods for this specific use differs from traditional rods because they can be shorter and must be both strong and flexible. Flexibility allows to cushion the shock, strength allows to win the fight and land the fish.

Some avid anglers make their own custom rod from a spinning blank. Perhaps you can make your own custom rod by cutting a blank in this way for instance:

• get graphite spinning blanks suitable for fish you want to catch (e.g. 6-12 pounds lines)
• trim the tipp according to your needs (see the ice fishing tips page).
• cut the rest of the blank to get the desired length (e.g. 42'')

For a stronger rod to be used for deepr depth you can do the same but using a baitcasting blank of the same properties.
