Galvan Fly Reels

I first heard of Galvan fly reels when I interviewed Larry Tusoni, the professional master bamboo rod maker and author of the RodDNA software from California.

Larry knows Bonifacio Galvan personally and also resells his reels. In the USA, Galvan reels are gaining momentum, he told me and are quite popular.

Bonifacio Galvan, a machinist by trade, started his compnay in 1994. The reels are in aluminium and the anodized to a semi-gloss finish.

the Galvan Fly reels website

The Tackle Tour website regarded the Galvan OB6, # 7-8 as an extremely recommandable fly reel (2004) for both freshwater and saltwater with an excellent drag system and performance. Only the size and weight was considered a little drawback (6.9oz, 196g). But since the review was 4 years ago, it seems that Bonifacio has heard the critics and apparently has put the accent on the "lightweight" aspect in today's series.
