G Loomis Fishing Rods

G Loomis fishing rods are among the most respectable brands in the US fishing tackle industry due to the passion and dedication of his founder Gary Loomis, a machinist by trade, a graphite composite expert and rod designer by profession.

Gary Loomis, who worked for Lamiglass for seven years, founded the G. Loomis company in 1985 because the rod he was fishing steelheads with on the Kalama river, WA, was to powerful and kept braking the line.

Here are his own words:

"...We needed a rod that would handle a big fish and still protect light line. I took an old fly rod, stripped off the lower three or four guides, put spinning guides in their place, extended the rear grip of the handle a bit so I could use a small spinning reel in place of the fly reel. That did the trick! The softer, more forgiving flex of the fly rod allowed me to use much lighter line and I started catching fish like crazy....The guys who were struggling started coming over to ask me what I was doing so different. When I showed them the rod they all wanted one."

Gary loomis, founder of the G.Loomis fishing rods company

G.Loomis was sold to Shimano America Corporation in 1997.

G loomis fishing rods range from fly to spinning to deep sea and offer a wide range of specialized fishing (e.g. trout, steelhead).

Noteworthy are their "Escape" series of travel rods but this without taking away all other series which are well considered for their quality and performance, although sometimes expensive.
