A fly fishing vacations in the Alps?
The Brenno River in the Blenio Valley is a typical alpine stream with clear water and a quite unique nature with secular cedars and a rich flora for the favourable micro-climate which exist at the top of the valley. The altitude is around 1800m (about 3200 feet).
The area is visited every summer by botanists and hikers, not to mention fishermen. Trouts are clearly visible but low trees and bushes make moving along the stream a hunting experience at moments. The place is reachable from the main road winding up to the Lucomagno (Lukmanier
in German) Pass from the Italian Speaking Canton. The Lucomagno Pass is not
far from Disentis where you can get the Glacier
Express - A panoramic trip from St. Moritz to Zermatt We stayed at the very small camping site full of facilities. Out tent was bordering with the stream. The Camping is also a Nature Centre and is often used for studies and conference venues. Here is the link. We din't catch many fish, we are beginners, but who cares in the end? The nature around us was like heaven and the memory stays with us! Moreover, later on we learned that this stream is a difficult place to fish because of the clear waters, the plants at the bottom of the stream and the low foliage along many stretches of the Brenno river.
