Fly Casting Technique: The LOADING moment
Let's go straight to the conclusion of this fly casting technique moment:The movements shall NOT be abrupt NOR have a constant speed! - There are "back" and "forth" movements.
- The back and forth movements have the goal to move back and forth the line
- In each of the back and forth movements there is a LOADING moment
- The loading moment is a moment when in a SET SPACE and in SHORT TIME a precise movement is made in order to create a LOOP in the line. In the first picture below, this moment is the "AB" section.
- The result is not a lash OF the line but a LOOP IN the line
The LOOP is when the line has a lower part which does not move (idle) while the top part is moving (faster and faster towards the loop).Fly casting is moving a couple of times (2 OR 3 times should do it for short distances; a few more times when casting longer distances), back and forth, the line WITH the loop. The last loop should get a thrust downwards, creating a narrower and FASTER loop which shows the fly in a SUDDEN way...

The loading Moment (AB), should be made when the rod is at about 45°The rod should stop at about "11:00 O'clock"The loop should be parallel to the waterThere are different casting techniques and theories just for this part of creating the LOOP (e.g. American, "vertical" casting style) but we will not enter them here......ehm, ok, this is the theory. Some quality time spent with an instructor such as Massimo should be recommended to everybody. One will not immediately become a good angler (this is another thing), but with a good casting technique we are on our way to be the perfect fly-angler: the fisherman who knows how and where to fish AND is equipped with the right fly casting technique. This "optimun" fly-angler can fish anywhere and in any condition.
