Cortland Fly Lines

Cortland fly lines are not only part of history but also synonym of innovation and among the highest quality fishing lines.

Cortland has just about every style of fly fishing line you could desire.

The company was founded by Ray Smith, in Cortland, N.Y., in 1915 from his textile experiences.

Naturally, in those days, the fly lines were made of silk and as you might know they had to be taken care of with lot of cleaning and drying..

But when a man with a passion for fly fishinhg and and avid angler himself like Mr Smith is behind a businees venture, it's enough to keep asking how to improve things and drive the efforts towards what people are looking for...War allowing it.

Cortland Fly Reels WebsiteThe second World War also drastically modified Cortland production (they had to make parachute and bomb cords) but by keeping abreast of new technologies Cortland could exploit the war experience with the famous 333 line series in 1953: the first synthetic braided line.

This line did not not need high maintenance for the first time. A synthetic coating was applied on the surface which allowed the line to easily float as well.

Line Innovations came again in 1979 (444 SL). In 2000, the 444 was named "Fly Line of the Millennium".

Also in the '70s is the most famous fly fishing backing line ever made, Cortland’s Micron made available in different colours.

In the '70s Cortland also started to priduce other fly fishing items like the rods and reels.

Cortland fly lines and braide fishing lines are made in Cortland, NY, USA.

Species specific tapers, engineered to generate high line speeds when used with modern action fly rods. The 333 Pro lines are over weighted to load your rod more quickly, have a longer belly to carry more line in air, and have a stiffer finish to shoot through your guides more easily, and with beefed-up back tapers to shoot further.

For almost 40 years this line, in this taper, has been the choice of technical trout anglers the world over. Boasting high floating drifts and smooth moderate length and roll casts, you?ll love the precise control this line offers. The peach color allows the line to be more visible to the angler, but less visible to trout.
