After the Waischenfeld (Germany), gathering more than 100 cane rod makers from 11 nations all over Europe, Brazil and South Africa met for the first European bamboo rodmakers gathering in Sansepolcro, Tuscany (Italy) from 22 to 25 May 2008.

Special guests were Mr Hoagy Carmichael - writer and editor of the milestone book about Mr. Garrison - "A Master's Guide To Building A Bamboo Fly Rod" - Mr. Larry Tusoni - creator of RodDNA software - and Mr. Andy Royer - bamboo broker, all from the USA.

The event was a great success and here we report about the presentations which were given by expert bamboo rodmakers.

Noticeable highlights of the gathering were:

• Alberto Poratelli's and Gabriele Gori's presentation of a new genial method to make bamboo ferrules
  
• Philippe Sicher and Christian Strixner study on hollow rods
  
• and Hoagy Carmichael's honorary membership from the Italian Bamboo Rodmakers Association (IBRA).
