Angling History
A short Introduction

An antique Chinese Drawing of the 12th century portraying a fisherman with a fishing rod and reel on a boatAngling history is a minor chapter of Historical studies. Yet, it's a fascinating aspect of bamboo rodmaking to understand the life conditions of the generations before us, the technology available to them and the main events that affected their lives (wars, precariousness, chances, discoveries, etc...).

Traditionaly, fishing rods in history (since ancient history!) have used natural material such as wood (bamboo, hazelnut-wood, etc..) while only in the last 50 years fiber-glass (in the '70s) and graphite (since the '80s) have taken the predominant role.

The golden era for bamboo fly fishing rods were the '70s when the technology (new glues, better tools) was at an advanced point without the synthetic materials (fibreglass, graphite) being still viable for the mass market.
